These photos have been contributed by John Grady (some
re-cycled from his page), Allen Clark, Richard Parry and myself
amongst others. I mentioned to John the other night during our
conversation that I was thinking about doing a page on
Utica-Rome and he related a story about the track during Dick
Waterman's tenure that is too good not to share. "The pits were in
terrible shape at one point, rocky, dusty, just a mess. So Dick had
this fellow with an oil tuck come in and oil the pits for him. And
the guy liked Dick so well that he thought he'd do him a favor
and so he oiled the track too. It was an asphalt track you know..
AHAHAHAHA!! So on Sunday night we're there and Chartrand
comes in after warmups and says, 'I theink thee clutch is
sleeiipping' AHAHAHA, they must've used up all the kitty litter in
three counties trying to dry that up, it was hilarious." And so it
goes with John who has many fond memories of the track,
displayed here. Thanks to all who have contributed to this page.
More to come..
