1/23/2010 Updated Odds & Ends Fred Smith Photos - Updated Grab Bag Added Denis Giroux Name that Photo - Added posts and new photos Guestbook - Added posts Schedule - Updated for 2010 (so far).. Archived Guestbook and Updates - I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season, I'd like to wish all viewers a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I would have been more timely if only my computer would have co-operated - long story short, if you get a pop-up asking you to fix something - delete it - or you're probably just letting the virus in. Some very crafty people have nothing better to do... Regardless, it allowed me to take care of some other business instead of the site which I have to admit, takes up a lot of my time. And I was getting burned out doing it as well. So, I now have a nice chassis started for a hot rod as I've re-discovered my shop. I read two excellent books, on Bugs Stevens and Ed Flemke, they should be required reading for all who race and want to do it the 'right' way. In watching 'MadHouse' on the History channel, (it's a race 'reality' show filmed at Bowman Gray Stadium with the Modifieds) - I can only say that those guys slamming into each other aren't racing the right way. Bugs Stevens related in his book "Guys just run over each other now, that's not racing. If you were to do that in my time, and then tell someone like Leo Cleary 'Hey, that's racing' he'd wipe the smile off your face and you'd be seeing stars." Or something to that effect. Anyway - great books, not such a great show. - There have been several passings since my last posting. Noted builder and driver Bryan Osgood passed in Mid December. Former Midstate driver Alton Deforest passed on Christmas eve and Carl Nagle's mother passed within this past week. My condolences to all families. - This year my plans are to add some more tracks to Odds & Ends, I've been talking with Rod Nacewicz and will be making a trip to the Utica area to meet with him, Dave Stoodley and Robert Danough - there will be additions to the Utica-Rome pages and I'll add Watertown as well. That said however, I probably won't be making weekly updates any longer. I want to get some work done in the shop and on my projects, I can't do both so bear with me. I will update as I get new material or have events to report on, bit it won't be as steady as previously. I kinda like my vacation so I'm going to extend it. The site has exceeded all my expectations and continues to grow, both in size and apparently, popularity as it's nearing 100,000 front page hits (we're on two browsers, Http & www), and still averages nearly 15,000 page hits per month - even when I didn't update it... Pretty good numbers for our club and I appreciate the traffic. It means to me that there is still a lot of interest in these old Modified coupes and coaches, so there are plenty 'birds of a feather' out there - and this bird needs to get back to the shop. Enjoy 2010 - Jeff
