PENN CAN PREVIEW JULY 2006
With no events this past weekend to
slow progress in the garage,
members are spiffing up equipment
for this coming weekend events at
the NYS Fairgrounds and Penn Can
Speedway. The Syracuse Nationals
Hot Rod Show takes place at the
Fairgrounds from Friday the 14th
thru Sunday the 16th and the club
will have at least two representatives
there. Alan Weaver and John
McCullough are planning to be at
Cargill Hall with their sweet asphalt
modifieds so if you get the chance to
check them out, say hello to the
guys.
Here in the Southern Tier the
cleanup from last weeks flooding
continues and has progressed well.
There’s still a lot to do but the signs
of retuning to normalcy are
encouraging. Hopefully people will
be able to take a break and join us
at Penn Can Speedway on Friday
the 14th for the Pappy Bevins
Memorial race and ‘Legends of the
Penn Can’ night. Promoter Reed
Miller has put together a nice
program to honor past champions at
the Speedway and we’re pleased to
be taking part in the program. With
some luck and good weather we
should be able to witness Chuck
Akulis making some laps in the
Mike Newell Pink Panther which I’m
sure will conjure up some pleasant
memories for veteran race
supporters. A display of our
Modifieds behind the grandstand as
well as some track action is
planned; we hope to see you at
Penn Can this coming Friday
evening. If you haven’t been to the
track in a while, be prepared for a
surprise. Reed and Al Wilcox
improve the place yearly and have
worked the facility into a showplace
that packs in the crowd, get there
early if you want a good seat. The
gates open at 5:00 with racing
commencing at 7:15 Pm, check out
their site on our links page. Looking
forward to seeing you this
weekend.
