MASCC members from the Bridgewater and
Utica areas congregated at Patty’s Pub on
Saturday the 13th to catch up on club business
and chow down some wings. Minutes were read
from our Fall rules meeting and briefly
discussed, the hottest topic appeared to be the
addition of OHV V8’s and carburetion. Several
members have expressed interest in building
cars of this type and as of this count, four
members are working on them. In addition,
Larry and Howdy Witter are building a second
50’s class car, brother Tom Witter is working on
a Flathead car and Jim Florance has purchased
the former Kennedy #67 to add numbers to our
competition class. New show cars for this year
are being constructed by John Clark, Richard
Ackerman, Pat Hanley and Richard Parry has
one up his sleeve as well. This is good news as
we hoped that the rules changes would add to
our racing division’s car counts and it appears
to have sparked some interest. The 2007
schedule was discussed next with dates set at
Five Mile Point for the Heath Memorial, Penn
Can for the Legends of Penn Can and Utica
Rome for NYSSCA night as well as the Otsego
County Fair, Old Time HOF Induction and
several car shows on the plate. Our racing
schedule is yet to be completed and we will
continue to explore possibilities for additional
racing dates. Increased car counts should be of
benefit in that regard. We also discussed this
winter’s car shows at the Oakdale Mall on
March 2-4, Carquest on March 9-11 and the
World of Racing Expo March 16-18, members
signed up accordingly and it looks like we’ll
have some interesting representation at each
show. As of this date we have 13 shows booked
to keep members busy. Lastly we discussed the
website and possible additions which will be
incorporated as soon as Nikki and I can get to
them.
With business completed we piled into some
wings and chili provided by Richard and
Sharon Parry. Chewing away, watching Richard’
s old racing movies and doing some bench
racing was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend
a rainy Saturday afternoon. ‘Suicide’ Al
Sanders was on hand displaying some nice
memorabilia including his tow bar from the
1950’s and Cromwell Helmet while spinning
yarns about his past experiences at Daytona on
the beach course. Dave Conde and Richard
Parry brought along their nice scrapbooks and
graciously loaned them to further enrich the
Midstate Speedway pages. Time flew quickly as
we scoured the photographs and we were soon
back on the road with a thousand thoughts to
ponder. Looks like another enjoyable season
ahead and we’re all looking forward to it.
