Fall Meeting 2008. The
weather was perfect and so
was the day. In fact, it
probably coudn't have been
any better. The boys and I
cleaned the house and
groomed CRAP Speedway for
the day and they 'helped'
make burgers for our feast.
Right on time Howdie and
Larry Witter pulled in with the
#4 and a big grill, big smiles
too as we were all looking
forward to this day. Jim
Florence and Jim Chase are
along shortly after, then Mom
and Dad with the S33. Jay
Barret made the trip from
Rochester to do some trading,
Alan Tatich and he soon strike
up a conversation that lasted
most of the day. We got the
cars washed, fired up and over
to the display area. Dad took
the S33 over to the Pumkin
Farm to draw them in for our
offering of Kiddie Rides but
first, we had to have our
meeting... OK, everything
clean but me, a quick shower
and an amazingly quick
meeting. Everyones happy,
dues will remain the same nad
be paid in the Spring. The
schedule will remain the same
with big cards being Bill
Wimble night @ U/R, the
Heath Memorial @ 5MP, The
Otsego County Fair, the NCNY
HOF @ Midstate and the
Legends of Penn Can. No
changes. Racing is still tabled
- if we want to run we'll go
with the MVSCC. The only
change was Gary Wood
stepping down as Treasurer,
the funds were turned over to
me in order to fund tis
website, which is our only
expense at this time. Meeting
adjourned, 15 minutes tops
and that's the way to do it.
Let's eat.
My Mom has beans going, Sue
and Howdy Witter are
manning the grills after Sue
remade my burgers - I like a
dagwood but I guess they were
a litttel to big...I was gitting
sick of making them afterall so
I guess they got progressivley
bigger, Belvedere doesn't
mind. The boys joined us
briefly for lunch but I didn't
have enough slobber towels for
everyone so they had to take a
powder. It was a feast, burgers,
sausage, beans, salad, cookies,
brownies, chips and soda -
everyone brought something,
including Jim Florence's
mysterious box from Florida.
"What's in the box Jim?" -
Suffice to say a very intersting
piece and my new secret
weapon...I could tell you but
then I'd have to rub you out
so..it'll keep. Alan Tatich has
found the model-T steering
wheel I picked up for him -
deals going on everywhere,
Jay Barret ended up with a
crank for some vintage tires,
we whould do this more
often..Dad is showing off some
pictures borrowed from Debbie
Brunschmid and Bob Gibbs,
they're fabulous. We're
running ut of time though as
it's 1:00 and the kids are
waiting.
Over to CRAP Speedway and
lckily we have some extra
drivers. Dad has the S33
going, I get the Teardrop
rolling, Jim Florence jumps in
the 151, Larry and Howdie
take turns in the #4, and then
we switch, several times. Jim
Chase has the Teardrop and
S33 under control, and on and
on it goes. I noted a lot of 'big
kids' getting rides too,
including us and it was a
blast. The track is just big
enough to be fun and small
enough to keep the speed
reasonable. And rough enough
to let you know that some of
these shocks are worn out...
My neighbor's, the Virgil's
come over and Michael is in a
trot, he wants a ride in the
Teardop, off we go..then his
father Chad wants one, then
his mom Emily too - and they
all want to go fast... OK!
Michael is eyeing the B29,
there isn't much room but I
tell him if he can squeeze in
we'll go, he's in the car
instantly. I hit the throttle
"HOOO HOO" says Michael,
eyes wide. We wrung these
cars out for two hours and
aside from a broken tierod on
the Teardrop (fixed in10
minutes) they were flawless,
and fun. The whole day was
fun, couldn't have been better
in my mind and from the
smiles I saw tatooed on our
members and passengers
faces, I'd say all felt the same.
And there it is, another season
now in the books. A great
season as well, I dare say it
was as good a year as we've
had, and although I miss the
racing to a degree, the show
car class is not only strong but
admitedly as much, if not
more fun anyway. And
everyone leaves with their car
in one piece as well as their
sanity...we look forward to
doing it again next year.
The 'Minions' look on as Al Tatich inspects a Model-T wheel..Al, Dad, Jim Florence and Larry Witter.
