CHEMUNG  SPEEDROME
CHEMUNG, NY
These photo's have been submitted by Chemung historian Stu Morrison of
Elmira whose father Sy raced at the speedrome in the early 1950's. They depict
the early years at Earl Bodine's track.
Stu Relates:
   Hey Fellows,
Great site! I have been looking for something like this since the Chemung
Speedway site went belly-up. I have a few photos I took in 1951 when I was 12
years old with my 8 shot Brownie.  I was in the pits with my father Sy
Morrison, who drove the #609 1937 Ford. The one of my father was taken just
before his heat race; so, it is still light. The other ones were taken later in the
evening while they were going out for the feature - thank goodness for flash
bulbs.
Best regards, Stu Morrison in Elmira
Sy Morrison.
Pete Shaffer.
Ready to go racing.
Ken King.
Joe Donahue.
Here is a shot of Sy Morrison taken in front of his Partridge Street home
just before hooking up for the tow to Chemung Speedrome in 1951. He
raced at other tracks like Doty Hill Speedway, Naples, Addison Hills, Troy
(PA), Airport Speedway (Big Flats) and Shangri-La during the early 50's.
With the recent passing of Joe Donahue, not too many of the drivers left
from the class of 51. Stu Morrison
Bucky Buchanan.
Chubby Chandler.
Stu believes this car was part of Ernie Junes group.
Need a little help with this sharp coupe.
Thanks Stu.
